Simple. For me, salt is healing. I love the ocean, the beach, sweating (as long as it's not in a blue plastic precaution gown), sometimes crying can even be healing. In the neuro ICU we use concentrated salt, hypertonic saline, to treat brain swelling, and it works. Have you ever eaten food without salt? Yuck, bland and uninteresting, no bueno. Salty also defines the sassiness that many nurses have, that attitude that we can tackle it all, with humor and poise, but nobody's going to step on me or my fellow nurse! So, let's be salty, be present for the day-to-day of our lives, be mindful of what we say yes to, but most of all, let's find joy together on this journey.
